Out of the Ashes Brings Medical Treatment to Western Kenya

Darcy Bergen, an experienced financial advisor, is the founder of Bergen Financial Group, an advisory firm with offices throughout Arizona. Darcy Bergen is also the treasurer of the nonprofit Bergen’s Mission, which works closely with the multinational organization Hope for the Nations on development projects in East Africa.

Hope for the Nations works with partner agencies in 21 countries that focus on community development and meeting the healthcare needs of numerous populations. One partner agency, Out of the Ashes, is based in Kitale, Kenya, a town near the Ugandan border. Nearly 60 percent of the town’s residents face extreme poverty and cannot access routine healthcare. To address this need, Out of the Ashes established a street-based medicine program in 2009. In 2011 the organization was able to open a small clinic and provide more substantive medical treatment.

As a result of generous donations, the clinic has been able to hire three staff members and modernize their medical equipment. The clinic treats as many as 25 patients each day. Currently, Out of the Ashes is seeking donations to build a larger medical facility and purchase a vehicle to facilitate healthcare for those living in remote areas.
