The Society of Certified Retirement Financial Advisors, or CRFA, is a society which bestows the title of Certified Retirement Financial Advisor on those who pass an examination designed to test the knowledge and skill of financial advisors.
Those who wish to take the examination are required to have three years of experience both in the investment industry and in tax planning and preparation. The exam, which contains 100 multiple choice questions with a four hour time limit, tests for a knowledge of practices relating to the financial aspects of retirement including trusts, financial and tax issues, and asset protection and management. The examination also requires applicants to demonstrate an ability to put together a portfolio for a retiree. The certification has been approved by American Equity Insurance Company and LPL Financial as well as many more, and is in the process of becoming accredited by the Institute for Credentialing Excellence.
